Where Your Media Goes
Understanding storage destinations and how your media is preserved with Save.
Save does not store your media. When using Save, you have full agency over the lifecycle of your media: you can decide where to store it and how you want to share it in the future.
The app connects to two different types of servers, so you can choose which works best for you:
1. Nextcloud (Private Server)
Nextcloud is a secure, private, and open source WebDAV-compatible server solution.
Best for:
- Organizations that need complete control over their data
- Situations requiring private, secure storage
- Teams who want to self-host their archive
- Users who need to comply with specific data sovereignty requirements
Features:
- Full control over your data
- Open source and auditable
- Can be self-hosted or use a managed provider
- Supports collaboration features
2. Internet Archive (Public Server)
The Internet Archive is a nonprofit archive offering free public servers.
Best for:
- Preserving media for public access
- Long-term archival with redundancy
- Sharing documentation publicly
- Contributing to the historical record
Options:
- Free public storage - Your media is publicly accessible
- Paid Vault - Private storage option for sensitive content
